How to give an agency access to your Google Ads account (manager account)

Step by step, based on Google’s official help, to link your company’s Google Ads account to the agency’s manager account (MCC): share the customer ID, wait for the request and accept it.

Agencies usually manage their clients’ accounts through a Google Ads manager account, also called MCC, which lets them link and manage multiple accounts from one place. The link happens in four stages:

  1. You give the agency your Google Ads account’s customer ID.
  2. The agency sends a link request from its manager account.
  3. You accept the request in your Google Ads account.
  4. The account appears in the agency’s manager account, and the agency checks the link.

No stage requires sharing a password or verification code.

Stage 1: find your customer ID

Sign in to your Google Ads account and click your profile picture in the top right corner. Your customer ID is listed under your account name. It also appears in previous Google Ads emails and billing statements.

Google recommends sharing your customer ID only with people you trust.

If your company doesn’t have a Google Ads account yet: create the account with your company’s Google Account at ads.google.com, following the official sign-up guide. Google lets you create the account without a campaign, and the agency can take care of campaigns later.

Stage 2: wait for the agency’s request

The link request only exists after the agency sends it. Wait for the agency to let you know before looking for the invitation. The agency sends the request from its manager account, using the customer ID you shared.

Stage 3: accept the request

  1. Sign in to your company’s Google Ads account with a user that has admin access. In the Admin menu, go to Access and security and select the Managers tab.
  2. Under Link request, check that the request comes from the manager account of your agency (compare it with the name and ID the agency gave you). In the Actions column, accept the request.

Once the request is accepted, the agency receives a confirmation email and the account automatically appears in its manager account.

Common problems

  • I can’t find the request: check with the agency that it has already been sent, and to the right customer ID.
  • I can’t accept it: only someone with admin access to the Google Ads account (or access through a linked manager account that has administrative ownership of it) can accept the link request.
  • I have more than one account: tell the agency the ID of the account it will manage.

Organize this request with Conta Comigo

In Conta Comigo, the agency creates a checklist from the official “Google Ads + GA4 + GTM” template and sends a link to the client. The client enters the customer ID, the agency sees the saved ID, sends the link request and lets the client know in a comment when it can be accepted. Create your checklist in Conta Comigo and send the link to your client.
